Q: Coming from a family deeply involved in civil engineering, how did those early experiences shape your decision to pursue a career in law?
Stanley Padgett: My upbringing played a significant role in shaping my perspective on problem-solving and hard work. Working for my father’s civil engineering firm from the age of 14 gave me a hands-on understanding of industries like construction, surveying, and inspections. It taught me the importance of precision and accountability—qualities that naturally transitioned into my legal career. While I initially worked in engineering, I realized I had a passion for advocating for people and helping them resolve complex issues, which led me to law.

Q: You began your legal career working on a high-profile National Environmental Policy Act case. What was that experience like, and what did you learn from it?
Stanley Padgett: That was a pivotal moment early in my career. Working on the reconstruction of the Dolphin Island bridge after hurricane damage introduced me to the intersection of law, policy, and real-world impact. I gained a deep understanding of environmental regulations and the complexities of handling litigation with multiple stakeholders. It taught me to approach cases with a strategic and analytical mindset, which has been invaluable throughout my career.
Q: You’ve been practicing law for over 40 years and have handled hundreds of cases. What drives your passion for litigation, and how do you maintain your dedication?
Stanley Padgett: Litigation is about solving problems and seeking justice, which has always been my passion. What drives me is the opportunity to help business owners and individuals navigate challenging legal situations. I find fulfillment in bringing clarity and resolution to complex disputes, often turning crises into manageable solutions. My dedication comes from the trust clients place in me and my commitment to delivering the best possible outcomes.
Q: After a decade at Trenam Kemker, you started your own firm in 1992. What inspired that decision, and how has Padgett Law, P.A. evolved over the years?
Stanley Padgett: Starting my own firm was a leap of faith, but it was fueled by a desire to work more closely with clients and provide personalized solutions. Over the years, Padgett Law, P.A. has grown into a practice focused on litigation, business law, and construction law. My goal has always been to be a trusted advisor who helps clients prevent problems before they arise, not just clean up after the fact. That philosophy has guided my firm’s growth and success.
Q: As “The Litigation Leader,” you’ve emphasized preventing problems before they occur. How do you approach this with your clients?
Stanley Padgett: Prevention is key. Most business problems stem from decisions made long before the issue arises—poor contracts, bad deals, or inadequate planning. My role is to help clients identify potential risks and address them proactively. I encourage entrepreneurs to seek advice early in their decision-making process, so they don’t find themselves in court later. A great lawyer doesn’t just solve problems; they help clients avoid them altogether.

It’s a testament to the trust and respect I’ve earned within the legal community
Q: You’ve worked extensively with entrepreneurs and business owners. What common legal challenges do they face, and how do you help them address these issues?
Stanley Padgett: Entrepreneurs often face challenges like poorly drafted contracts, disputes with partners, and litigation stemming from unforeseen risks. They’re visionaries who excel at their craft but don’t always have the legal knowledge to protect their interests. My job is to act as their trusted advisor, using my 40 years of experience to guide them through negotiations, mitigate risks, and resolve disputes efficiently and cost-effectively.
Q: Your involvement with organizations like the Board of Advisors shows a commitment to networking and collaboration. What value do you find in these groups?
Stanley Padgett: Organizations like the Board of Advisors are invaluable for both personal and professional growth. Being part of a group of entrepreneurs and business leaders allows me to exchange ideas, learn from others’ experiences, and build lasting relationships. These groups are about more than networking—they’re about supporting each other, sharing expertise, and finding innovative solutions together.
Q: With a career spanning four decades, what legacy do you hope to leave in the legal field?
Stanley Padgett: I want my legacy to be one of integrity, professionalism, and dedication to helping others. My hope is that clients, colleagues, and peers remember me as someone who not only fought hard for justice but also guided others to avoid pitfalls and build stronger, more resilient businesses. Ultimately, I want to be remembered as someone who made a difference in the lives of those I served.
Q: What advice would you give to young lawyers who aspire to follow in your footsteps?
